How it works
Hypnotherapy is a form of short therapy that uses deep relaxation to help you overcome issues due to subconscious blockages or traumas and bring profound positive changes into your life.
What is hypnosis
Hypnosis is a form of modified state of consciousness that we naturally experience when we’re about to fall asleep, or during a meditation, where the mind starts to show us images and random thoughts pop without us controlling and with a sense of deep relaxation and bliss. It can be also experienced while we dissociate during an activity such as driving or playing a musical instrument. Our thoughts are ‘somewhere else’ and yet, if a danger happens, our full attention comes back immediately. Similarly, during hypnotherapy, we are aware of what is happening and can always stop the process whenever they want.
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, no one can force you to be hypnotised or do things against your will.
Before a session
I like to have a chat with clients before they commit for a session. During your FREE Initial Consultation, we will discuss what you want to change in your life, what you want to achieve, what your situation is, and we can both decide if we are a right match. If you are happy to proceed, you will need to book for your hypnotherapy session, and I’ll prepare a tailored session just for you so you can enjoy the full benefits.
The hypnotherapy session
I will first explain the steps, to make sure you are comfortable before proceeding.
I then use an induction -- a technique, usually visualisation, that will help you to relax and induce a trance state, followed by the most appropriate techniques and suggestions to modify the programmes that are causing you issues. During the session, you are fully aware of your surroundings. You are always fully in control, no one can force any programming onto you. If you didn’t agree with a suggestion I make, you would simply reject it.
Each session is recorded, you will receive your copy after your appointment.
Why is hypnotherapy so effective
When someone goes to hypnotherapy with a presenting issue, they usually have tried a lot of things, and feel that they can’t progress any further using will or conventional treatment only. The reason why they can’t progress is because they can’t change the subconscious programme that is causing the issue.
Our subconscious mind is responsible for our emotions and behaviour and therefore determines how we perceive the world and live our lives. It is made of all our emotions, our culture, our education, our memories, and shape entirely how we view and experience the world. This blueprint is accessible easily during trance and in this state, we can change what we want to achieve better life outcomes.
When we experience somatic issues, or have difficulties with phobias, or habits, this is because our subconscious mind has been programmed in a way that doesn’t suit our goals and needs to be altered. This re-programming can be done while a person is in a normal conscious state, such as during psychotherapy sessions or through education and repetition, but the quickest and most effective way to create change in the subconscious mind is done when a person is in a highly relaxing state of trance. In this state, a hypnotherapist, in collaboration with their client, can give direct or symbolic suggestions that will bypass the critical, rigid conscious mind.
We have all the answers we need in our subconscious mind, using its language allow to access its wisdom and its programmes can be modified more easily. The subconscious understands instantly colours, shapes, music, stories, metaphors, symbols... Therefore, when we listen to sad music, our thoughts tend to become negative, while if we listen to uplifting tunes, we can immediately increase our energy levels. The same goes with the words we read or hear.
Hypnotherapy doesn’t necessarily involve finding the root cause of the presenting issue – even though it can – it is about changing the programme itself by establishing a trance state to access the subconscious mind.
Overall, any issue caused by the subconscious mind can be treated with hypnotherapy. Moods, somatic ailments, fears, phobias, changing mindset, procrastination, forming new habits, treating addictions, alleviate pain, even changing perceptions such as the taste of foods or the smell of cigarette smoke.
